Brightwater Academy is a made-up school, built to show Compass.

About Brightwater Academy

Brightwater Academy was founded in 1962 by a group of Alder Point parents who wanted a school where children learn by doing. Today we serve about 640 students from Pre-K through Grade 12. Our average class size is 16, and our student-to-teacher ratio is 8 to 1.

Mission

Brightwater Academy inspires curious minds and kind hearts. We teach students to think clearly, act with integrity, and serve their community.

Leadership

Dr. Miriam Okafor has been Head of School since 2019. Before Brightwater, she led the middle school at a school in Madison, Wisconsin. The school is governed by a 21-member Board of Trustees.

Campus

Our 48-acre campus on Lake Alder has four division buildings, the Lakeside STEM Wing (opened 2026), the Ferris Gym, the Harbor Gallery, a 450-seat auditorium, Brightwater Field, Brightwater Diamond, an outdoor classroom and a half-mile nature trail.
