Your school's AI chatbot, wherever families need it.
At 9 pm a parent needs to know if Friday is a half day. With School Compass they ask in plain words and get the answer from your own website, calendar and newsletters, with a link to the page. Families get answers when they need them. Your office gets fewer repeat calls. You get a branded answer site at {slug}.compasschat.org and a chat widget for your existing website.

Try it — ask a real question
This is a real School Compass for Brightwater Academy, a made-up school we built to show it. Try the widget here, or open the full answer website to explore the standalone experience.
Families can ask in their own language. Compass answers in the language they ask in.
Your own version lives at {slug}.compasschat.org. Share it in newsletters, texts or a QR code — families can use it directly.
A widget for your existing website, too
Keep your school's website and add School Compass to it. Open Brightwater Academy's website and press Ask Brightwater Compass in the corner to see the widget. Both experiences use the same school assistant and sources.
What it answers
Available topics depend on your school's public content and the sources connected during setup.
Calendar
Days off, early dismissals, breaks, conferences — with "add to calendar" buttons.
Athletics
Game times, places and schedules from EventLink or your calendar.
Lunch

People
Who teaches what, and whom to call.
Newsletters
Recent family newsletters forwarded by your school from approved senders.
Pages and PDFs
Handbooks, policies, tuition, bus routes, forms.
How we know it works
An AI answer is only useful if families can trust it. Here is how Compass earns that trust.
Every answer shows its source
Each answer links to the page on your website it came from, so a parent can check it in one tap.
It says when it doesn't know
When your website doesn't have the answer, Compass says so and gives your office's contact details. It doesn't guess.
Checked on your website first
Sign-up checks that Compass can read your website before you pay. Before launch, it must find the right page for at least 80% of 20 test questions from your site.
Built to be accessible
An automated WCAG 2.1 AA scan of the family chat, sign-up and dashboard found 0 issues.
We test Compass on real school websites. See how we test.
How it works
- Tell us your website.
We look for your school details and supported sources, and check that Compass can read your pages before you pay. You confirm the details, choose your address and branding, and complete the agreement and payment.
- We review it, then keep it updated.
We read your site and check retrieval before launch. Once live, your website is scheduled for a daily re-read. Forward newsletters from approved senders to include those too.
- Share your site. Add your widget.
Once live, your branded answer website is available at {slug}.compasschat.org. Share that link with families and add the widget to your existing website. Families need no account and no app.
For your team
Your dashboard shows question counts, the answered percentage and unanswered counts, the unanswered questions families chose to send you, plus the status of your last website read. Update your assistant's name, colors, logo and supported sources, manage newsletter senders, and share your site link and QR code.

Built for school questions
Sources you can check
Source links help families check answers. Schools can also enable selected outside sources.
A next step when it can't answer
When an unanswered question is detected, the chat offers your school office's contact details. AI can still make mistakes.
No family accounts
Chat history is saved in the family's browser. When Compass can't answer, the family can choose to send that question to your school and our team. Nothing goes to your school or our team without the family's permission.
On phones and computers
Responsive layouts, keyboard controls and screen-reader labels help families use the chat.
What Compass will not do
- See grades, attendance or any student record. It only reads what your school publishes.
- Make up an answer it can't find. It says so and gives your office's contact details.
- Read pages behind a login, or pages that load their words with JavaScript. Sign-up tells you before you pay.
- Replace your office. Families are reminded to confirm important details with your team.
Student privacy
Built for COPPA. Ready for students under 13.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is the US law that protects children under 13 online. School Compass is built with it in mind, so your youngest students can use it too.
- No accounts. Students and families never sign up, log in or give a name or email.
- Questions are not saved. What families type is sent to the AI service to make an answer, then not saved in our database, unless they choose to send an unanswered question to your school. Search words in short-term server logs are deleted within 7 days.
- Personal details removed. In a question a family chooses to send, emails, phone numbers and street addresses are removed automatically, and the question is deleted within 60 days.
- No ads, profiles or AI training. Information from School Compass is used only to answer school questions for your school.
- One random ID, for security only. A random browser identifier stops abuse and enforces limits. It is never used to contact anyone or build a profile.
- School authorization, as the FTC allows. Your school authorizes use for its students, on parents' behalf, as the FTC's COPPA guidance allows. You can write to us at any time to ask what we hold and have it deleted.
The details are in our Service Agreement and Data Privacy Addendum.
Make your school easier to explore.

Open your school's website in another tab. Try to find these five answers, the way a parent would on a phone. Mark each one. Nothing you do here is sent or saved.
- When is the next day off?
- What time is the next early dismissal?
- What's for lunch this week?
- How do I report my child absent?
- What is the dress code?

What repeat questions cost your office
Put in your own numbers. The example numbers are only a start. Nothing you type here is sent or saved.
staff hours a year on repeat questions
of staff time a year
The School plan ($1,499 a year) pays for itself if Compass answers 25 of those questions a week.
The math: questions × minutes × weeks ÷ 60 = hours. Hours × hourly cost = dollars. $1,499 ÷ (weeks × minutes ÷ 60 × hourly cost) = questions a week to break even.

Getting started, family privacy, and everything in between.
Can answers be wrong?
Yes. School Compass supports your team; it does not replace your school's official communications. It uses the sources you connect, plus selected outside sources if you enable them, but AI can still give incorrect or outdated answers. Families are reminded to confirm important information with your team. When the assistant detects that it cannot answer, it offers your office's contact details.
Is School Compass built for COPPA and students under 13?
Yes. School Compass is built for COPPA, the US law that protects children under 13 online. Students and families need no account, name or email. What they type is used to make an answer and is not saved in our database, unless they choose to send an unanswered question to your school. It is never used for ads, profiles or AI training. Your school authorizes use on parents' behalf, as the FTC's COPPA guidance allows. The details are in our Service Agreement.
Do parents need an account?
No. You can share your School Compass website with families or add the widget to your existing site. Parents can ask questions straight away, without an account or an app. Your team does not need to manage family logins.
What happens to family questions?
Your dashboard shows usage counts, not families' conversations. Messages are sent to the AI service to generate answers, and chat history is saved in each family's browser. When Compass can't answer, the question stays in the family's browser; your dashboard and our team receive it only if the family chooses to send it. We automatically remove email addresses, phone numbers and street addresses first (automatic removal can miss some), and sent questions are deleted automatically within 60 days. Random browser identifiers and usage counters help prevent abuse. The privacy notice linked from your chat tells families not to enter personal or confidential details.
Will it work with our school website?
You keep your existing website. During sign-up, before you pay, we check that School Compass can read your public pages. We respect your site's crawl restrictions; content behind a login, blocked pages or content that loads with JavaScript can't be read. Your school gets a separate answer website, and you can also add the widget to your existing site.
What if Compass can't read our website?
Sign-up checks this before you pay. If your website blocks robots, has a security screen, or loads its words with JavaScript, sign-up tells you what is wrong and how your web team can fix it. You can't pay until the check passes, so you never pay for an assistant that can't read your site.
How long does setup take?
You provide your website, confirm your school details, choose your address and branding, and complete the agreement and payment. We then read your site, check retrieval and review the preview before launch. Our usual target is 2–3 business days after you complete setup; site access or source issues can take longer.
Can we turn it off?
Yes. Your team can pause the assistant from your dashboard. You can also manage or cancel your subscription through billing; the assistant pauses when the subscription ends.
