An AI chatbot for K-12 public schools

Public school families need fast answers about bell times, buses, lunch and days off. School Compass answers them from your school's own website and calendar, in plain words, on any phone.

What time does the bell ring? Is there a late start on Wednesday? What bus does my child take? How do I enroll a new student? A public school office answers these questions by phone and email all day. School Compass lets families ask them on your website and get an answer straight away.

Why public schools get so many repeat questions

Public school information is often spread across two websites: the school's and the district's. Bell schedules, bus routes, enrollment forms, lunch menus and board policies may each live in a different place. Families do not know which site to check, so they call the office.

Many families also read school information on a phone, in a second language, or late at night after work. A search box and a menu do not help much there. A plain-words question does.

What School Compass answers

School Compass reads your school's public website and the sources you connect during setup. What it can answer depends on what your school publishes. Typical questions include:

  • Calendar (Google Calendar or iCal feeds): days off, late starts, early dismissals and conferences, with "add to calendar" buttons. See how a calendar chatbot works.
  • Bell times and schedules: from your public pages and PDFs.
  • Lunch (Nutrislice menus): today's menu and the week ahead.
  • Enrollment and registration: steps, forms and deadlines from your public pages.
  • Athletics (EventLink schedules): game times and places.
  • People: who teaches what, and whom to call.
  • Handbooks and policies: attendance, dress code, phones and transportation, including PDFs.
  • Newsletters: recent family newsletters that your school forwards from approved senders.

You can also turn on selected outside sources, such as your district's website.

When it cannot answer

When School Compass detects that it cannot answer, it offers your office's contact details. It does not guess. AI can still make mistakes, so families are reminded to confirm important information with your team.

Student privacy comes first

Public schools serve students under 13 and must protect their information. School Compass is built for COPPA. Students and families need no account, name or email. What they type is used to make an answer and is not kept, unless they choose to send an unanswered question to your school. It is never used for ads, profiles or AI training. Your state or district may have its own student data privacy rules or agreements. Our Service Agreement and Data Privacy Addendum sets out how we handle data. Share it with your privacy lead before you start.

Two ways families can use it

1. A branded answer website

Your school gets its own site at your-school.compasschat.org, with your name, colors and logo. Share it in newsletters and texts, or print the QR code for the front office.

2. A chat widget on your existing website

Keep the website you have. Add one line of code, and families can ask from any page. Read how to add a chatbot to your school website.

Start with one school

School Compass is priced per school, by card or by invoice, and you can cancel at any time. One principal can try it in one building first. Our usual setup target is 2–3 business days. See pricing.

See it with a real question
